DEFENSE MINISTER MEETS UK SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE ON SOUTH CAUCASUS
The Minister noted the foundation of Azerbaijani-British cooperation was laid in the early 20th century, but after gaining independence, these relations acquired constantly developing character. He also expressed wish to establish military cooperation with the United Kingdom.
The Colonel-General provided the guest with detailed information on Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, aggressive policy of Armenia, non-fulfillment by the country of the UN resolutions on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, training terrorist groups in the occupied territories and drug cultivation there, as well as exchanged views on the present military and political situation in the South Caucasus, Azerbaijan-NATO relationship, military reforms in the Azerbaijani Armed Forces and a number of other issues.
Having thanked the Defense Minister for the warm meeting, UK special representative on the South Caucasus Brian Fall noted that the United Kingdom wants cooperate in military sphere with Azerbaijan as an important partner. Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, he pointed out that OSCE and other international organizations should intensify their efforts for settlement of the problem. According to him, observance of cease-fire regime is advantageous to both sides. Time demands establishment stability in all regions, it is very important for all nations including the people of Azerbaijan, he said.
Present at the meeting was Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Laurie Bristow.
