HEYDAR ALIYEV`s WAX FIGURE UNVEILED AT MADAME TUSSAUDS
A waxwork representation of Azerbaijan`s nationwide leader, late President Heydar Aliyev was unveiled Saturday at Madam Tussauds Museum in London.
The waxwork is dressed in a black tuxedo, white shirt and bow tie, and is wearing the nationwide leader`s watch donated to the Museum by his family.
Heydar Aliyev became a second CIS leader after Russia`s president to be immortalized in wax at Tussauds.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the occasion, Azeri ambassador in London Fakhraddin Gurbanov said Heydar Aliyev was the founder of today`s democratic Azerbaijan.
Arzu Aliyeva, the nationwide leader`s granddaughter, said besides being a great politician, he was a kind-hearted man who loved his family and relatives.
Steve Swales, the sculptor of the figure, said it took him half a year to make the model.
The sculptor said he traveled to Baku to view hundreds of the late Azerbaijani President`s photographs and meet with people who personally knew him in order to make the figure look more real.
Swales expressed his gratitude to Heydar Aliyev`s family members as well as the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for helping him and donating some personal belongings of the nationwide leader.
Among those in attendance at the ceremony were former British ambassador in Baku Roger Thomas, President of the “Yunkom” theatre center Farid Hagverdiyev, Turkish ambassador in London Mehmet Albug as well as a group of Azeri MPs.
