LATVIAN PRESIDENT TO PAY STATE VISIT TO GEORGIA
Baku, December 7 (AZERTAC). President Valdis Zatlers and First Lady Lilita Zatlere will be on a state visit to Georgia starting today, until December 9, according to LETA.
Zatlers` visit in Georgia will start in the City of Batumi, where he will have a meeting with Levan Varshalomidze, the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Ajaria and will have a tour around the city. The next on the Latvian president`s agenda is a meeting with his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Saakashvili. Both presidents will attend Georgia-Latvia business forum.
While in Georgia, Zatlers is scheduled to have meetings with Georgian Parliament Speaker David Bakradze and the Prime Minister Nikoloz Gilauri. At the conclusion of the visit, Zatlers will visit the Embassy of Latvia in Georgia and will meet representatives of the Latvian community in the Balkan country.
Discussion topics for Zatlers` meetings with Georgia`s high officials will include Tbilisi`s aspirations to join NATO, cooperation within the framework of EU Eastern Partnership Program, as well as the economic situation in Latvia and Georgia.
On the state visit to Georgia, Zalters is accompanied by 62 entrepreneurs representing 47 companies of Latvia. It is one of the largest businessmen delegations ever to accompany the president of Latvia on a foreign visit.
Currently the trade volume between Latvia and Georgia is not very high, and enterprises see great opportunities for cooperation development and growth. On the visit, Zatlers is accompanied by businessmen representing companies of the sectors of construction, woodworking, energy, metal processing, transport and logistics, information technologies, education, finances, textiles, pharmacy, food production and other sectors.
During the visit, a bilateral agreement on cooperation in the sector of information technologies is planned to be signed.
Other Latvia`s high-ranking officials accompanying the president on the visit to Georgia, are Economy Minister Artis Kampars (New Era), Interior Minister Linda Murniece (New Era), Environment Minister Raimonds Vejonis (Union of Greens and Farmers), Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Andris Berzins, Foreign Ministry`s State Secretary Andris Teikmanis and representatives of the president`s chancery.
