New technology that makes you less hungry –VBLOC implant
Baku, April 30 (AZERTAC). EnteroMedics has invented an implant that will control hunger. The company has said that the VBLOC implant will be successfully implanted into an obese person by 2011. It`s not been commissioned for commercial use still in the US, but going by the look of it, it could soon be a reality. The product is still under clinical trials. By this year, the inventors hope to implant the device into someone`s stomach and get positive results.
So how does the product work? Even if the product is implanted in the stomach it activates the brain. It regulates the brain to produce the right signals to the stomach. Such neuroregulatory action ensures that the vagus nerve delivers the right signals at the right time.
There`s a problem with plenty. Sometimes greed takes over need. In time such as these, food has increased in relevance. No more is it something taken for survival. Now it`s more for taste and luxury. Sedentary lifestyles, and increases in income have made people eat food more indiscriminately.
The implanted device controls feelings of satisfaction, and hunger. Attaching itself to the vagus nerve by way of electrodes, it manipulates the nerve`s pulses through electric pulses. Electric pulses control how the stomach responds.
The stomach is conditioned to do many things by way of electric pulses through the vagus nerve. Whenever food is going to be eaten, the stomach will be made to produce digestive juices, and prepare its inner wall for it.
When the signals are interrupted or modified by the electric signals from the electrodes, the brain thinks the stomach is full. The VBLOC implantation can be considered a derivative of bariatric surgery.
The implant is inserted by way of a slender endoscope. An incision is made in the abdominal wall, and the laproscope is inserted into it to implant the device.
