OMBUDSWOMAN AND EDUCATION MINISTER DISCUSS RUSSIAN LANGUAGE TEACHING IN AZERBAIJAN
During the meeting, ombudswoman Elmira Suleymanova noted that because English - among other foreign languages - is given the biggest consideration, and hours of teaching Russian had been shortened, Russian language teachers had referred to her to solve the problem from the standpoint of human rights. Expressing hope that the meeting will make things clear, she emphasized as well that Russians protecting and preserving their language and culture, had been actively involved in socio-political and scientific-cultural life of Azerbaijan, and providing truthful information on Azerbaijan to the global community.
Minister of Education Misir Mardanov clarified the problem emerged, and put forward proposals on its resolution. He also suggested to send - at the government’s expense - the teachers to retraining course, as well as remain unchangeable the high teaching load for pre-pension aged teachers.
