PRESIDENTS OF AZERBAIJAN AND LITHUANIA MEET IN PRESENCE OF DELEGATIONS
“We have met many times at international events. I am very pleased that Azerbaijan is the first country you are paying an official visit to as President of Lithuania. This official visit creates new opportunities to further develop and deepen relations between the two countries”, President Aliyev said.
Mentioning Lithuanian membership of the European Union, Azerbaijani President said Azerbaijan is also rapidly integrating into the European structures.
“From this standpoint, we can benefit from Lithuania’s experience and support”, he said.
Speaking of the economic and trade relations between Azerbaijan and Lithuania, Ilham Aliyev noted they should be further developed.
“You came to Azerbaijan with a large delegation. Apart form three ministers, your delegation also includes Lithuanian businessmen, and they are present here. There will be a business forum on June 9. All this points to a new phase in development of friendship and cooperation between our two countries. At the same time we want to have multisided relationship, and cooperation within international organizations with Lithuania, and to work together in very important regional projects”, the Azerbaijani leader said.
Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus, in his turn, expressed his satisfaction with his first official visit to Azerbaijan describing it as a historical event.
“Our countries have achieved a lot of success so far, and it is the matter of our pride. In this context, the role of Lithuania and Azerbaijan within global community is growing” he stressed.
President Adamkus said he is accompanied by a number of Lithuanian businessmen, who will explore the possibilities of cooperation with their Azerbaijani partners during the business forum.
He also expressed his country’s wish to cooperate with Azerbaijan in energy sphere.
“We assure the President of Azerbaijan that, as before, Lithuania will continue to be Azerbaijan’s strong and reliable ally in the international arena ”, Mr. Adamkus said.
During the meeting, the parties agreed to create a joint economic intergovernmental commission.
