Russian conductor performed in Baku Philharmonic
Baku, February 2 (AZERTAC). A concert of the Uzeyir Hajibayli Azerbaijan State Symphonic Orchestra and the Choir Capella with Russian conductor Vladimir Verbitsky was held in the Muslim Magomayev State Philharmonic Hall.
Soloists of the concert were Russian Jacob Katsnelson in piano and Azerbaijani Avaz Abdullayeva and Garina Karimova.
The concert saw classic music pieces of Prokovofyev`s piano concert number 3 and Ivan the Terrible.
Vladimir Igoryevich Verbitsky is a Russian and Australian conductor.
He was appointed guest conductor of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra in 1987, principal guest conductor in 1992, and conductor laureate in 1997.
He has recorded widely, with orchestras such as the USSR State Symphony Orchestra, St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, Voronezh Philharmonic, Slovak Philharmonic, Saarbrücken Radio Orchestra, and many Australian orchestras.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has decorated Verbitsky with the award of People’s Artist of Russia.
Jacob Katsnelson displayed exceptional musical talent at a very early age, entering the Music School for Gifted Children of the famed Gnessin Institute at five in 1981.
Besides many life records in the concert halls of Tchaikovsky Conservatory Jacob Katsnelson produced a CD with Kristine Blaumane, cello, featuring compositions of S. Barber, E. Grieg and B. Martinu; another one with the violist Maxim Rysanov playing Brahms. His CD with solo works of J. S. Bach appeared recently under the label Quartz (QTZ 2084).
Jacob Katsnelson is professor at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and teaches lieder interpretation at the Gnessin Institute in Moscow.
