LATVIA - AZERBAIJAN ECONOMIC, TRADE RELATIONS TO BE PROMOTED
The first meeting of the Azerbaijan-Latvia intergovernmental commission on economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation was held in Baku on March 2.
Azerbaijan’s commission headed by Heydar Babayev, Minister of Economic Development, is comprised of high-ranking officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Industry and Energy, Transport, Culture and Tourism, Education, Communication and Information Technologies, State Customs Committee and National Bank.
The commission from the Latvian side headed by Juris Strods, Minister of Economy, included representatives from the Ministries of Economy, Transport, Education and Science.
Saying trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Latvia made up US $10.3 million, Azeri Minister Babayev underlined that there is a great potential to enhance trade relations, and the governments should effectively use these opportunities.
He noted that the commission has worked since 2006, and played an important role in boosting trade-economic ties between the two countries.
The Latvian minister, in his turn, said his country attaches special significance to promotion of the economic relations with Azerbaijan. He added that discussions held in the meeting would be very useful for both sides.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the cooperation between the countries, including relations in the trade, transport, industry, education, communication and information technologies, banking and other spheres.
The meeting was rounded off with signing a protocol on the results of the first meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation.
