Forensic report: Huseyn Safarov’s death caused by post-traumatic and post-hemorrhagic shock due to multiple injuries
Baku, July 1, AZERTAC
“During the external examination of Huseyn Safarov’s body, we identified numerous injuries. Based on the findings of the Forensic Medical Examination and Anatomical Pathology Union, his cause of death was post-traumatic and post-hemorrhagic shock resulting from multiple injuries,” said Adalat Hasanov, Director General of the Forensic Medical Examination and Anatomical Pathology Union under the Ministry of Health, during a press conference held at AZERTAC regarding the forensic examination results of Ziyaddin and Huseyn Safarov, Azerbaijani brothers who died as a result of brutal beatings in Yekaterinburg on June 27.
Hasanov reported that the external examination revealed a displaced fracture of the nasal bones. The chest was deformed and asymmetrical, and a hematoma was observed around the left eye. Bruises were found on the mucous membranes of the upper and lower lips, caused by blunt force trauma that forced the lips against the teeth, resulting in injuries.
He added, “In addition to hematomas, abrasions were observed above the right and left eyebrows on the forehead. Bruises were also found on the right shoulder blade area, on both upper limbs, on the backs of the hands, and on the testicles. Multiple bruises and hematomas were identified on both gluteal regions, the backs of both thighs, and abrasions were noted on the left thigh, lower back, and shin.”
The Director General also detailed injuries identified during the internal examination: “Extensive hemorrhages were observed on the inner surface of the scalp due to blunt force trauma. Upon opening the skull, hemorrhages were found in both the surface and soft meninges of the brain. Displaced fractures of approximately seven to eight ribs on each side were identified, resulting from blunt chest trauma. These fractures were so severe and displaced that the broken rib ends damaged the parietal pleura and lungs. It is likely that blood accumulated in the chest cavity and air entered the lungs. Intercostal muscles were infiltrated with blood. Extensive hemorrhages were also found in the diaphragm and peritoneum. The blood present in the abdominal cavity was caused by these injuries.”
On June 27, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) conducted raids on homes inhabited by Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg. As a result, two Azerbaijanis were killed, several others sustained serious injuries, and nine individuals were detained.
On June 28, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing deep concern over the incident, emphasizing: “We expect from the Russian side to conduct an urgent investigation into the matter and bring the perpetrators of this unacceptable violence to justice as soon as possible.”
