NATO, AZERBAIJAN TO SIGN NEW PLAN OF ACTIONS ON INDIVIDUAL PARTNERSHIP
Defense Minister of Azerbaijan Safar Abiyev met the NATO Secretary General’s representative for the Southern Caucasus and Central Asia, Robert Simmons, 15 March.
The Minister noted that after the President of Azerbaijan signed the Plan of Actions on Individual Partnership, the major terms the Plan stipulates have been realized. “We shall try to fulfill the terms of Plan and henceforth. The system of education in the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan fully meets the NATO standards”, he stressed. At his words, specialists of the United States, Turkey and other NATO partner countries render any assistance to Azerbaijan in this cause.
The sides considered the implementation of the plan of Azerbaijan’s individual partnership with NATO within the Partnership for Peace program as well as the reform of Azerbaijan’s armed forces in line with NATO standards.
Speaking of the military-political situation in the South Caucasus region, Mr. Abiyev stated that Armenia continues its occupant policy in region and ignores the demand of world community on withdrawal of its armed forces from the occupied areas. “On the contrary, we have the only way - Azerbaijan has to liberate its lands by all means” Minister Abiyev underlined.
Expressing his satisfaction with the results of the discussions conducted in the frame work of his visit, Robert Simmons especially emphasized that NATO highly appreciates the work carried out on implementation of the Individual Partnership Action Plan by corresponding state structures of Azerbaijan.
Other questions concerning consecutive development of relations between Azerbaijan and NATO were also discussed at the meeting.
