Baku hosts first session of world forum on intercultural dialugue
Baku, April 7 (AZERTAC). The first session of the world forum on intercultural dialogue on “Intercultural understanding and cultural diversity to achieve peace and development” was held here Thursday.
The session was co-chaired by Elmar Mammadyarov, Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan and Jean Christophe Bas, Senior Advisor, Strategic Development and Partnerships, United Nations Alliance of Civilizations
Addressing the event, Mammadyarov pointed out Azerbaijan is the country where different communities and peoples live in peace. He expressed hope that the forum would bring new forms of cooperation or strengthen existing ones.
Speaking at the meeting were Katérina Stenou, Director, Division of Cultural Policies and Intercultural Dialogue, UNESCO, Catherine Fieschi, Counterpoint British Council, Darla Deardorff, Executive Director of the Association of International Education Administrators, Duke University, Eberhard Koelsch, Vice-chair of the Executive Council of the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, Chair of NSC Think-Tank and others.
Speakers underlined the conduct of such a forum in Baku is not accidental because Azerbaijan is located at crossroads of a number of civilazations and cultures.
