French press spotlights Azerbaijan`s triumph at Eurovision song contest
Paris, May 16 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan won the 56th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest at their fourth participation. Eldar and Nigar, also known as Ell & Nikki scored the first ever win of a Caucasian country at Europe`s favourite TV show. Next year, the contest will be held most probably in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku.
L`Express, Le Parisien, Liberation, Paris Match and many other daily and weekly newspapers and magazines of France covered the triumph of Azerbaijan. Global news agencies such as Reuters, Associated Press, France Press and so on, also spotlight the Azerbaijan`s winners.
Ell & Nikki gave Azerbaijan their first ever victory in the Eurovision Song Contest with a romantic ballad “Running Scared”. The Azeri duo managed to conquer the hearts of the European TV viewers and juries and won the contest with a total number of 221 points receiving three sets of `douze pointe` from Malta, Russia and Turkey.
The papers write that the song, somewhat of a surprise winner to many, beat out early favorites from France and England to win over Italy and Sweden. Sweden`s Eric Saade was winning the contest in the early going, until it became apparent that Eldar and Nigar would run away with a trophy.
The foreign press emphasizes that the Eurovision contest in Baku next year will promote Azerbaijan`s international image.
