UN headquarters hosts ceremony to mark International Day of Novruz

Baku, March 25 (AZERTAC). An official ceremony was held at the initiative of Azerbaijan at the UN headquarters Monday to mark the International Day of Novruz, adopted by the UN resolution on February 23, 2010.

Along with Azerbaijani representatives, the celebration was attended by diplomats of permanent missions from co-authors of the resolution including Albania, Afghanistan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Turkmenistan as well as other UN member countries

Speaking to the ceremony, Azerbaijani permanent representative Agshin Mehdiyev said celebration of Novruz as an international day had been initiated by Azerbaijan, adding the holiday is widely marked in his country as an integral part of its culture. He underlined the International Novruz Day would contribute to cross-cultural and interreligious dialogue.
