Vitali Klitschko Injured, Won’t Return Until 2014
Baku, August 14 (AZERTAC). The WBC is reporting that its heavyweight champion, Vitali Klitschko (45-2, 41 KO), has injured his right hand.
Specifics have not been released, but according to the WBC, Klitschko “might return to fight early next year.”
This delay will see Klitschko dormant for at least fifteen months following his TKO victory over Manuel Charr in September 2012. It will also be the 2 year old Klitschko`s longest layoff since his four year absence from the ring from December 2004 to October 2008.
Klitschko fans will be watching closely as the delay coincides with increased activity in Klitschko`s political career. The elder Klitchko has recently given over control of the athletic management company KGM to his brother and moved back to Ukraine where he works with the Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform (UDAR), a political party Klitschko was central in forming.
In 2012, Klitschko was elected to the Ukrainian parliament with 39 other members of UDAR and is expected to stand for the Ukrainian presidential election in 2015.
By his own admission, Klitschko is consumed with his political work, spending most of his time on planes.
Klitschko told Forbes Magazine in a June 24th interview, “I can`t just keep boxing forever! If anyone had told me that I would remain World Champion till I was 41, I would never have believed them.”
