Cultural diversity discussed in Baku
Baku, May 31 (AZERTAC). A plenary session on how to build public support for cultural diversity was held as part of the 2nd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.
Moderator Alp Ozerdem, Director, Centre for Peace & Reconciliation Studies, Coventry University, UK said that keeping, recognizing cultural diversity in the intercultural system is the major goal towards integration.
Jean-Christophe Bas, Deputy director for Strategic Development and Partnerships of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, underlined the importance of creation of a society contributing to the public support for the cultural diversity.
Vice-Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mehmet Saglam underlined the importance of putting some measures in place towards education to gain public support needed for cultural diversity.
Hafiz Pashayev, Rector of Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy, highlighted of the significance of the world forum on intercultural dialogue. He noted the intercultural dialogue helps to expand relations among countries, which have rich culture.
Pashayev pointed out that various communities and religions have always lived peacefully in Azerbaijan. “This is an indicator of how tolerant Azerbaijan is.”
Other speakers included were Mari Skare, Secretary General’s Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security, NATO, Samia Bibars, Ambassador, Director of Culture & Dialogue among Civilizations Department, League of Arab States, and Jonathan Shen, CEO Shinework, China.
