PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV MEETS WITH HEADS OF AZERBAIJAN COMMUNITIES IN GERMANY
President Ilham Aliyev met, at Adlon Kempinski hotel in Berlin, February 15, with heads of Azerbaijan communities in Germany. The President said Germany is a friendly and very important partner to Azerbaijan. He described the Azerbaijan-Germany as well as the Azerbaijan-EU relations as developing successfully.
The President said Azerbaijan will benefit greatly from the participation in the Europe’s new neighborhood policy, and energy partnership with European Union.
He said the European integration is a priority direction of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy noting the country’s image in the international arena has been substantially enhanced.
President Aliyev underlined the role of Azerbaijanians living in foreign countries in strengthening the independence of Azerbaijan, adding the government, in turn, takes efforts to protect and support compatriots abroad.
On the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, the President said: “In order to resolve the problem, we should be stronger, and we need help from our compatriots. Azerbaijan communities abroad should work side by side with embassies to defend our country’s positions and enhance its prestige in the international arena.”
The leader of Azerbaijan spoke of the international importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum oil and gas, as well as the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad projects.
He called on the Azerbaijanians living in Germany to be more actively involved in the processes of Azerbaijan’s integration into Europe.
Speaking on behalf of the Azerbaijan communities in Germany were: Bahaddin Kaya, president of the Congress of Azerbaijanians of Europe; Bashar Komur, president of the Center for Europe-Azerbaijan Strategic Studies, Samira Ismayilova, member of the Germany-Azerbaijan Forum, Rza Talibi, deputy chairman of the Forum, Professor at the University of Cologne.
