Ariel Cohen: JD Vance’s visit indicates Trump administration fully behind historic peace agreement concluded at White House
Washington, February 13, AZERTAC
U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s visit to the South Caucasus is a historic one. This is an indication that the Trump administration is fully behind the historic peace agreement that was concluded at the White House between President Ilham Aliyev with mediation of President Trump and Pashinyan, the Prime Minister of Armenia, in August of 2025, US expert Ariel Cohen told AZERTAC.
“It also means that the United States will be present in the region, not just in a diplomatic way, but in terms of energy, security engagement, defense engagement, investment, etc. Azerbaijan, and hopefully Armenia and maybe even Georgia one day, will be engaged with all directions, all parts of the world, with China, with Russia, but also with Europe and the United States. This is a multi-vector policy that we saw in Central Asia, and therefore it's a good thing for Azerbaijan. It's a victory for President Ilham Aliyev and his diplomacy, and it's a victory for the United States,” he mentioned.
“TRIPP is very important. It's rather short corridor, but it's strategic because it connects mainland Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan, and then it can be connected to Iran and via Armenia to Türkiye, and that allows shortening the time of containers and cargo going through the middle corridor. So, you connect the Middle Corridor with TRIPP and then go to Türkiye quicker and shave more days off the period of time these containers are moving. And if you make it quicker, you save money for the shippers. This is real peace. This is practical, and it will only develop with the corridor not being only a transportation artery but also an area of industrial development, services, and economic growth. And, this is, again, a peace dividend for both Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the expert added.
