COVID-19 in Ukraine: 2,411 new infections, 57 dead, 73,999 active cases
Baku, September 8, AZERTAC
Ukraine has registered 2,411 new COVID-19 cases as of 9 a.m. on Sept. 8. Currently, there are 73,999 active cases across the country, according to Kyiv Post.
In the past 24 hours, 57 people have died, 434 were hospitalized and 940 patients recovered. Laboratories carried out 22,860 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests and 19,373 antibody tests.
Although Ukrainian laboratories have doubled the daily number of administered PCR tests since mid-August, the surge in the number of patients suspected of having COVID-19, hospitalizations and deaths in the past month suggests that the pandemic is worsening in Ukraine. For instance, the daily number of suspected COVID-19 infections was under 1,000 until late July. In the past six weeks, this number has been growing and currently varies between 2,400-2,900 per day.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in Ukraine since the start of the pandemic stands at 140,479. A total of 63,546 patients have recovered and 2,934 have died.
