Addressing the ceremony, Azeri ambassador Latif Gandilov hailed his country`s relations with China as “friendly and historical”.
“The erection of a bust to the great Azerbaijani poet in Beijing is a manifestation of respect for his memory. We need to promote our culture in the world. Nizami is not only a poet, but also a philosopher and a scholar. And it is a pleasure that his bust will adorn one of the most beautiful parks in Beijing," he said.
The ceremony also featured the recitation by Beijing schoolchildren of Nizami Ganjavi`s poems in Chinese.
Chaoyang Park houses monuments to Simon Bolivar, the great liberator of South America, Ferdinand Magellan, Portuguese explorer, as well as Taras Shevchenko, Mahatma Gandhi and Hristo Botev.
Originally constructed in 1984, Chaoyang Park has developed to become the largest park in Beijing. It measures approximately 2.8 km in length and 1.5 km in width. The majority of this impressive greenery is being used as green space meaning that it does not feature structures, but merely plant life and other elements of nature.
It has flower gardens, funfair with rides like a roller coaster, green areas and several large pools.
