Gunay Afandiyeva: Joint educational initiatives of Azerbaijan and Türkiye play an important role in the overall development of the region
Baku, December 23, AZERTAC
“The draft law on the approval of the Additional Protocol to the Agreement between the governments of Azerbaijan and Türkiye on cooperation in the field of education, being a logical continuation of the brotherly relations and high-level strategic partnership between the two countries, at the same time represents another valuable contribution to pan-Turkic integration. At the end of the last century, the farsighted and wise call of the National Leader, the great Heydar Aliyev — ‘One nation, two states’ — turned into a profound philosophy, and then in the 21st century gained even broader scope in the President’s words ‘The Turkic world is our family,’ indicating one of the main directions of our path of development.
From this perspective, the joint educational initiatives of Azerbaijan and Turkey, as well as of our country as a whole with the Turkic world, play an important role in the overall rise of the region.”
These remarks were made by Member of the Milli Majlis, Deputy Chair of the Culture Committee Gunay Afandiyeva in a statement to AZERTAC.
She noted that Azerbaijan’s brotherly ties with the Turkic world and cooperation in the field of education are today confirmed by the activities of the Azerbaijan–Türkiye University in Baku, the Mirzo Ulugbek School of Uzbekistan in the city of Fuzuli, the Kurmangazy Creative Development Center of Kazakhstan, the “Aykol Manas” School of Kyrgyzstan in the village of Khidirli in the Aghdam district, as well as a school built with the support of Hungary in the Jabrayil district.
“These educational institutions are strategic platforms where spiritual and intellectual bridges are built between our peoples, and an environment of shared vision and solidarity is formed based on common history, language, and cultural values. Along with our modern languages, our ancient alphabet should also be studied in these institutions. This will further strengthen our historical ties and bring us even closer to one another.
There are only a few days left until the new year, and as you are aware, in accordance with a Decree of the President of Azerbaijan, the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress will be widely celebrated in our country in 2026.
A century ago, the prominent intellectuals and scholars who took part in this congress dreamed of today’s image of the Turkic world — a unity that closely cooperates in science, education, and culture, supports one another, and confidently moves toward a common future. Today, these dreams find their vivid embodiment in concrete steps and successful results among the main priorities of Azerbaijan’s state policy.
In the modern era, the President has carried out this historic mission with great political and diplomatic skill, and today our country acts as one of the important leading pillars of the Turkic world,” Gunay Afandiyeva emphasized.
